Djibouti (Rep. of Djibouti): It is with shock and sadness that the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) learnt that the Al Shabab terror group carried out multiple attacks yesterday targeting Mogadishu International Airport, the HQ of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), UN offices and the Peace Hotel in Mogadishu claiming the lives of members of the Somali police forces.

IGAD condemns in the strongest terms these heinous attacks against Somalia, its people, and its friends bringing support to rebuilding the country and its institutions.

IGAD sends its heartfelt condolences to the Government and the people of Somalia as well as the families of those who tragically lost their precious lives in this terrible attack, and prays for the swift recovery of the injured

IGAD is convinced that, while these terror assaults are meant to discourage from their relentless efforts to establish the desired peace and rebuild their homeland, the Government and people of Somalia will stand firm with support from the region and the international community.

IGAD has watched with pride how resilient and heroic the government and people of Somalia are, and is confident that such attacks will only strengthen their resolve at bringing peace and rebuilding the country.###
