October 25 2016: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Government of Somalia awarded IGAD staffs Mr. Abdikarim Mohamed and Mr jemal Ahmed, for their efforts towards the formation of the newly established Hirshebele State of Somalia. Dr. Yahye Ali Ibrahim, the permanent secretary of Ministry of Interior and Federal affairs of Somalia was also awarded together with the IGAD staff.

The ceremony was held on the 23rd of October 2016 at the VILLA SOMALIA, MOGADISHU. The ceremony was Graced by the Prime Minister, Omar Abdirashid Ali Sarmarke the Speaker of the Federal Parliament, Mohamed Osman, the interior minister Abdirahman odowa and Governor and mayor of Mogadishu, yusuf Hussein.

The Distinguished diplomatic service award is the highest presidential award in the land.The Hiirshabelle state formation process has been concluded On the 22 October 2016. Mr.  Ali Abdullahi Osoble and Mr. Ali Abdullahi Hussein have been elected as president and vice President of the state respectively. The Hirran and Middle Shebele state formation has been running for months and faced varying challenges.

The IGAD Office of the Facilitator for Somalia Peace and National Reconciliation has supported the state formation process in Jubaland and Southwest states of Somalia in line with the Policy of the Federal Government of Somalia. Hiirshabelle state is the third state of Somalia, which is facilitated by the Federal Government of Somalia and IGAD in collaboration with the European Union and other partners. The formation of Hiirshabelle concludes the state formation process in Somalia. IGAD congratulates the Federal Government of Somalia and its partners for this great achievement and wishes the people of Somalia a peaceful and prosperous future.
