9 February 2021 (DJIBOUTI, Djibouti): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) congratulates the Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan and IGAD Chair, H.E. Abdalla Hamdok, following the announcement yesterday of an inclusive Cabinet.

The new Cabinet incorporating ex-rebel leaders is another step forward towards strengthening stability in the country since the historic peace agreement of October 2020 signed in Juba, South Sudan.

 IGAD hails the spirit of brotherhood that led to the consensus over the formation of the new Cabinet. This is another testimony of visionary leadership from all parties and great wisdom from PM Hamdok.

 Furthermore, IGAD welcomes the appointment of H.E. Mariam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan, and will strive to working closely with Her Excellency.

 IGAD is convinced that all leaders and stakeholders will remain faithful to the spirit of the Peace Agreements towards full and successful completion of the peace process.
