August 4, 2021 (ADAMA, Ethiopia): The Peace and Security Division of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is undertaking a second round of capacity building training sessions on post-conflict and peace building for officials and senior experts of different institutions of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with the objective to enhance and deepen their knowledge on peace and security related institutions governing these themes. The three-day training runs from 3-6 August in Adama town.

Hon. Siraj Fegessa, Director of IGAD Peace and Security Division (PSD), in his opening remarks highlighted that “countries in post conflict situations need to develop a comprehensive approach that focuses on community level engagement and strategic dialogue between the actors with varied interests”.

The IGAD Peace and Security Division has developed the IGAD Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development Policy Framework with the objective to support countries emerging out of such conflicts, or in a conflict situation in their efforts towards reconstruction and the rebuilding of state and its institutions. These include managing further disputes, preventing escalations, avoid relapse into violence, and address the root causes of conflict with efforts to consolidate sustainable peace, security and development.


 

 

July 28th-29th,2021 (Bishoftu, Ethiopia): MSU held a 2-day workshop for Capacity Development for Ethiopia's National Dialogue Process that was attended by: State Ministers, Chief of Staff, Peace Building Director General, Directorates in the Ministry of Peace, Representatives from the Ministry of Peace, Representatives from various States, and Multi-stakeholder Initiative for National Dialogue (MIND) who gave an overview of the National Dialogue in Ethiopia.

26 July 2021, Mombasa, Kenya: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Security Sector Program (IGAD SSP) kicked off a four-days national workshop from 26-29 July 2021 titled Women’s Rights in Counter-Terrorism Policies and Strategies in Mombasa, Kenya. in which high-level officials from the government of Kenya (the judiciary, the executive and local governments) are represented; in addition to representatives from civic organizations which are actively involved in gender mainstreaming and women rights vis-à-vis preventing violent extremism and counterterrorism.

25 JULY 2021 ( Bishoftu, Ethiopia): The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Peace and Security Division (PSD) this morning kick started three days National Consultative Workshop based on a policy brief on implementation of UNSCR 1325 for technical level Ethiopian Authorities  with  the objective  to discuss the overall situation in Ethiopia regarding existing follow up mechanisms of the implementation of UNSCR1325 and to devise a concrete roadmap towards a National Action Plan (NAP) or an equivalent instrument for the purpose.
