07-11-2017, Djibouti, Djibouti: The intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Planning & Coordination Unit today launched the Workshop on the Elaboration of the IGAD Operational Plan 2018 during an opening ceremony held in Djibouti.

 This yearly event gathers IGAD staff from the Secretariat and Specialised Institutions during three days for the purpose of fine-tuning altogether their divisional planning and sharing information for a harmonized and coordinated planning.

 Mr Ahmed Y. Habbane, speaking for the IGAD Executive Secretary, called for a “valid and reliable work plan 2018”. “2018 will be a pivotal year as we will be half-way in the implementation of our IGAD strategy 2016-2020. It will be a very busy year during which a mid-term review will be conducted and we will be called on getting together more frequently than usual”, he said.

 The IOP is intended to be the annual road-map, instrument and mechanism for the implementation of IGAD’s activities for the year. It encapsulates the blueprint for the implementation of both the IGAD regional and sectorial strategies.

 Further, the IGAD Operational Plan 2018 will:

  • Be based on a realistic assessment of expected resources;
  • Focus on areas where IGAD has a comparative advantage; and
  • Set priorities by focusing on the current strategic “Areas of Intervention”.

 A comprehensive IGAD Operational Plan (IOP) for 2018 will be agreed upon towards the closing of the three-day meeting.
